Adrian Papahagi lectures in Rome

On 23-27 March, CODEX director, Adrian Papahagi, taught a codicology course in Rome. The course is a part of the European Diploma of Mediaeval Studies (DEEM) programme, offered since 1991 by the Fédération Internationale des Instituts d’Études Médiévales (FIDEM), of which CODEX is a member. The theoretical part of the course was taught at the Norwegian Institute in Roma, affiliated to the University of Oslo, and the practical course took place at the Biblioteca Angelica, where students worked with manuscripts copied between the ninth and the fifteenth century. The course was attended by MA and PhD students from Brazil, Italy and Spain.

As a member of the STEMMA doctoral school (Scienze del Testo dal Medioevo alla Modernità), Prof. Papahagi also lectured on the Old English elegies of the Exeter Book at the Sapienza, on 24 March. The lecture was entitled “Desolazione e consolazione: le elegie anglosassoni del Codice di Exeter (sec. X)”.
