On 8-11 September 2026, the CODEX Centre organised the international conference “Medieval Books in the Early Modern Period: Comparative Perspectives” within a research project financed by the Romanian Research Council (“Medieval Books in the Early Modern Period: The Case of Cluj in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries”, PN-IV-P1-PCE-2023-0465).
The conference was attended by specialists from France, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
During the conference, we opened an exhibition of medieval books and fragments at the Academy Library in Cluj. The exhibition catalogue, written by Adrian Papahagi and Carmen Oanea, was presented on that occasion.
Participants and the general public attended a concert of music from of medieval and early modern Transylvanian manuscripts, directed by our colleague, Dr Szabolcs Márton (10 September, 5 pm, St Michael’s Church, Cluj).
The conference trip took us to the Batthyaneum Library on 11 September.
